PRESS NOTE

1.The International Sikh Confederation along with two major Sikh Organisations – Kendri Sri Guru Singh Sabha and Institute of Sikh Studies, Chandigarh is organizing a Sikh Convention from 10 AM to 4 PM on Saturday 15 Dec. 07. The aim of the convention is to unitedly fight against various evils that plague our province. We have chosen five such issues namely: -

(a) Drugs and their evil effects on our youth.

(b) Female foeticide

(c) Sikh Identity. A majority of Sikh youth have forsaken the Sikh religion and it’s tenets. We need to bring them back into our fold.

(d) Casteism has crept into our religion much against the teachings of our Gurus. We need to combat this.

(e) Care of our forsaken /orphan children.

2. We have invited the heads of various Sikh Organisations including Deras which are actively fighting some of the above evils. A big gathering is expected to be present and our effort will be to bring them all on one platform by means of a common minimum programme. Once this is done, our own organisations will ensure full co-ordination and monitoring so as to ensure that this campaign is launched in all the urban and rural areas of Punjab.

3. We shall seek the full support of the SAD and the SGPC. Jathedar Akal Takht Sahib as very kindly agreed to inaugurate this convention. We do expect representative of the SGPC to attend in strength alongwith some Jathedar Saheban.

4. The Convention will restricted itself to discussing only the above five Subjects.
