MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE INTERIM EXECUTIVE
COMMITTEE HELD ON 03 FEB, 07


  • The following members of the Interim Executive Committee and invitees were present:-

  • Dr Kharak Singh welcomed the members and stressed the need for our Advisory Councils to implement the decisions taken so far we now need to show results by implementing projects on the ground.
  • Gen Kartar Singh felt that all Advisory Councils have identified problem areas. The Head of all AC’s need to :-
    • Identify qualified members and incorporate them in their AC’s so that work load can be shared.
    • Planned projects be now transformed into actual and practical implementation.
    • Our HQ will help you in providing the Secretariat. HQ does not have staff to be able to do field work.

Agenda Points

  • Gen Kartar Singh drew the attention of the Delhi and Ludhiana Chapters to the Constitution regarding the organization in Regional and Zonal Committees. Delhi is the Regional Chapter of the Delhi Region whereas Ludhiana is the Zonal HQ of the Punjab Region. All Dist. of Punjab will form various Zonal HQ under Regional HQ at Chandigarh (Present HQ).
  • Regional and Zonal HQ need to send us details of the Committees formed so that their share of the finances as per Constitution could be remitted to them.

Planning of Educational Projects in the Field

  • S HS Phoolka outlined the method they had adopted in Nawanshehr where, with the DC’s assistance, the Gyan Sewa Trust has been conducting coaching classes in Science and Maths for selected Class IX and Class XII students.
  • Dr Kulwant Kaur also explained now the Mai Bhago Brigade has been visiting Schools in Rural areas and offering scholarships and other help to deserving students.
  • It was decided that Dr S S Johl our head of the Education AC will be requested to launch a pilot project in an area where it is most urgently required. S HS Phoolka was requested to send us an outline of the method, syllabus taught and other details of their project for our study as this could speed up our project.

TV Project

  • After a short discussion, it was decided that Dr Charan Kamal Singh, the head of our concerned AC, will be requested to proceed with the project on priority. It was felt that a Sikh personality in Bombay, who is already handling TV Channels, be contacted for advice.
  • Various names of NRI’s were mentioned by members as Gursikhs who could help finance the scheme. Members concerned are requested to send us these names with addresses so that follow up action is initiated by this HQ. Dr Kulwant Kaur and S MS Rahi are requested to send us the addresses of S Darshan Singh Dhaliwal of Chicago and Dr Piara Singh (US Navy) who could be of great help in launching this TV project at the earliest.

Resolution

  • The Committee members hereby support the Resolution that the ISC Advisory Committee on Media go ahead on priority in the launching of a TV Channel to be wholly owned by the ISC. If an existing channel is available at a reasonable price acquiring this could also be considered. Technical experts be consulted, if required, at Bombay and Delhi.

Award of Bursary to Deserving Students

Resolution

  • It was resolved that the ISC go ahead in awarding Bursaries from the Education fund to deserving Sikh students in higher studies.
  • This should be in the form of loans returnable in reasonable installments after the student obtains employment.
  • The CEO is hereby authorized to work out details and start implementation of this scheme at the earliest with the approval of the Convenor.
