MEETING OF INTERIM EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE AND ADVISORY COUNCILS.

  • We have made considerable progress in identifying problems and framework of projects required to tackle these problems. Some of these projects such as, award of scholarships for higher studies to deserving and needy students, have been launched.
  1. In the Education sphere, we are seriously surveying the need to open coaching centres for classes IX and XI students on the lines of the Gian Sewa Trust, New Delhi. Their Nawanshehr coaching centre is in the news and is doing laudable work. We need to progress and finalize our own action plan. Dr S S Johl has already done a survey in this direction. Besides this, we would need to discuss how the ISC will help in the uplift of Primary and Secondary Education in Punjab, with special reference to Rural Areas: Weakness in written and spoken English is a big handicap at higher and competition level. The need to make available Science and Commerce subjects along with providing quality teachers is a crying necessity. We need to urgently tackle these problems.
  2. On the Religious Affairs and Legal side we have identified problem areas as follows:-

(a) Legal status of the Jathedar Akal Takht Sahib in Sikh Society.

(b) Defence of our legal rights at the National and International levels.

(c) Defence of Sikh Identity the world over.

(d) Legal recognition of our Anand Karaj ceremony.

(e) Sikh representation in world bodies including the United Nations .

We now need to discuss these further and take action as required.

  • We are indeed lucky to have amongst us a distinguished visitor in S. Jetinder Singh Uppal from Austialia, belonging to the “Sikh Helping Sikhs” Society. S H S Phoolka, our Delhi member and distinguished Supreme Court advocate, has been kind enough to motivate him to join us in our activities. Sardar J S Uppal will join us in a discussion to be held at HQ ISC (Sector 28/A, Chandigarh) on Friday 23 rd Feb 07 at 10.30 AM.
  • You are requested to join us and give us the privilege of your valued advice after interaction with the visiting dignitary.
  • The meeting is likely to be of a two hour duration .
